No visitors and no members but a quality idea?
April 6th, 2009I have some experience of The Internet and all my web instincts lead me to believe that the quality of an idea and its execution is almost the whole story.
So I am not worried that the project – The Internet is God – has no visitors and no members. Every website starts in this way with little response! The trick is to keep calm and to explain bit by bit what the project is about. It can then stand or fall on its merits as the word gradually gets around.
Given that both founder partners of this site have other things to do as well as to talk about this project, I am going to limit my promotional strategy to letting you know about how things are going with the experiment through this blog and also by providing Twitter updates from time to time. This may work or it may not work. The beauty of Internet projects is that they are cheap both to fail and to succeed. If a project does not work, you can always put it down to experience and move on to something else.
I dislike hard sell tactics anyway, not least because they are ineffective! But in the realm of philosophy and religion, they are particularly distasteful, disrespecting the integrity and intelligence of the reader.
So, to sum up, we start with no interest at all and no members. I love this kind of a challenge but I will not sell my soul just for attention!
